Suggested scenario for students starting the 4-year form if they want to defend in a public debate by the end of year 4
Semester 7 Month 2: Selection of the members of the preliminary debate (chair, external reviewer, internal reviewer)
- Finalisation of the thesis (the version that the student considers ready for submission, no major changes should be planned.)
Semester 7 Month 3: Acceptance of preliminary discussion members (Programme Leader, DS Leader - email correspondence),
- inviting the reviewers to prepare the review
- the secretary sends the thesis to be checked for consistency and the result is sent to the reviewers
Semester 7 Month 4: Arrival of the reviews, writing of the candidate's answers
- the holding of the preliminary debate
Semester 7 Month 5: Selection of the members of the thesis committee (the referees and the chairperson can be the same as those invited for the preliminary discussion,
- must be approved by the Programme leader and the DS leader (to be submitted on paper and electronically)
- The Doctoral Council of Natural Sciences and Information Technology accepts the defence committee.
8th semester 1st month: consultation with the members of the committee, finding a date for the defence
- Sending the essay to the referees and committee members
8th semester 2nd month: proof of the last semester's research work, application for Absolutorium
Semester 8 Months 3-4: Holding the defence
The above timetable includes some buffer time to deal with any problems, so short delays should not be a problem for the execution.
Students can apply for a further one-year extension after the end of the 4 years, during which time their student status is no longer valid, but they can keep the defence.
During the graduation procedure, the candidate begins the defense procedure by submitting the following:
- the minutes of the preliminary discussion
- the disseration and theses (which also includes the list of authentic publications)
- proof of language skills ("b" language test)
- ranked publication list with scientometric and other characteristic data of published publications (impact factor, ISBN/ISSN number, name of referring journal and place of citation, etc.)
- at the same time, the DI proposes the composition of the evaluation committee, which is approved by the TTIDT,
- proof of payment of the procedural fee for those obliged to do so,
- the candidate's written declaration that he/she consents to the processing of personal data generated in connection with obtaining the degree.
To be submitted electronically to the e-mail address doktori@eng.unideb.hu: the doctoral thesis, the detailed, ranked list of publications.
Documents required for thesis defence:
- The disseration in 7 copies - in B5 format (according to the formal requirements) - signed by the candidate and the supervisor,

Doctoral candidates must upload their publications to the DEENK publication database. On the basis of the publications uploaded into the database, the Library prepares and validates the candidate's publication list, the candidate submits the validated list together with the thesis to the Doctoral Council of the discipline (§ 15 (1)). The minimum publication output expected from doctoral candidates is set out in Annex 6 of the University Doctoral Regulations for each discipline.
In the amendment of the University Doctoral Regulations of 15 May 2014, a provision was added to paragraph (1) of Article 15 regarding the documentation of the independent scientific work of doctoral candidates, which stipulates that the University and National Library shall prepare and certify the publication list of the doctoral candidate based on the publications uploaded to the university publication database.
