General requirements and conditions
- The university regulations require an appropriate level of language proficiency, a master's degree from a master's program that is part of the Doctoral School or another related master's program, and a well-thought-out research program.
- For Hungarian degrees awarded no more than two years ago, a minimum grade of "good" is required.
The admissions committee evaluates the applicants' performance during the admissions interview and recommends, conditionally recommends, or does not recommend their admission.
The committee awards points in the following categories:
- Professional intelligence maximum: 40 points,
- TDK thesis maximum 30 points,
- *diploma maximum 30 points,
- The minimum score required for admission (but not necessarily sufficient) is 60. scientific work,
*In the case of degrees older than two years or foreign degrees, the degree will not be scored, and the maximum score for professional intelligence and academic work will be increased by 15-15 points.

The admissions committee evaluates the candidate's professional knowledge, plans for research to be carried out during doctoral training, and the soundness of those plans. This assessment may be based on an oral examination and/or a written application and research plan.
The same procedure shall be followed if the applicant's diploma has no classification. In the case of diplomas obtained abroad, the applicant's university degree level and grade shall be assessed by the admissions committees.
Process of the entrance exam
1. The Doctoral Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering (DCNE) is responsible for the administration of the entrance exam (administering applications, organising the entrance exam, aggregating the results, notifying candidates).
2. The Pekár Imre Doctoral School of Mechanical Engineering (DS) is informed by the secretary of the DCNE of the number and data of the candidates who have applied for the entrance exam.
3. The composition of the entrance examination boards is approved by the DCNE based on the proposal of the DS by 30 April each year, or by 30 October if amended. The term of office of the board is one year.
4. The DS notifies the Doctoral Council of DCNE of the time and place of the entrance exam. The DS organises the entrance exam.
5. The secretary of the DCNE checks the necessary documents and the proposal of the supervisor and ensures their completion. He/she then notifies the candidates of the date and location of the entrance exam and sends their files to the entrance examination board.
6. The DS notifies the DCNE of the entrance exam results and the recommendation for admission.
7. The DS ranks the applicants according to their scores in the entrance exam and offers a variable number of scholarships to the highest scorers each year. Candidates who pass the entrance exam but do not receive a scholarship
8. Candidates will be notified of the admission decision by DCNE.
